Still serving mystery meat, but at least it's wheat pasta

"The first man to land on the moon was Neil Armstrong.  The second one was Buzzed."

Oh lawd.  By far my favorite quote of the week.  Thank you little student for paying attention in class.

Today I forgot my lunch.  I was going to just not eat, but I had $2 and figured I could buy a school lunch and experience what the kids are eating.  I asked the students how much lunch was and they told me $1.75.  Golden.  Get my lunch and go to pay and am told it's $2.75.  "Oh! I only have $2, but I'll bring you the rest tomorrow (Smile)!"

Lunch lady wasn't having it.  Definitely called over her manager and said, "She don't have enough money." Awesome.  Oh, there is definitely a line building up behind me.  They take down some info from me, write an IOU, and make me swear on my life I'll bring $.75 tomorrow.

The cafeteria is no joke.

Fido Fashion

If the Snuggie isn’t right for your pooch, maybe one of these sweaters will keep him/her warm. While doing some online shopping for myself I came across these teeny tiny sweaters:

I didn’t know The Limited sold stuff for pups, but these are super cute!

Holiday Shadows Palette

Apparently a lightning storm came through on Saturday night and destroyed our internet!  I have been slowly dying, but it's been restored, and now so have I.

Lots to recap, but this beauty deserves its own post!  I am currently in possession of a very lovely eye palette:

Again, the BlackBerry doesn't do it justice.  The colors are amazing, and each matte has a complimentary shimmery shadow.  My favorites are Coffee Ground, Sable, African Violet, and Celestial.  I'm very excited to get this since the holiday parties are around the corner!

Yes, I bought pleated front pants today

I needed an additional day to get my voice back.  I'm feeling much better, but knew I wouldn't make it a whole day.  Around noon I got a little stir crazy, and decided a shopping trip for only necessities was in order.  (Please excuse my poor photo documentation, but I couldn't find these online)

Black pleated front skinny pants (Old Navy)

Steel Blue Sparkle Knit Shirt (Old Navy)

My outfit/A Blackberry that at least takes mediocre pictures since I have destroyed my camera

Another lovely Vera Wang dress

Truly one of the best/my faves, which is why I had to post them.  And yes, those are my abs, and my fake plastic belly button, and my taupy grey skin.  Don't be jealous ; )

Of course, I also needed to refuel afterwards, and Tacos al Pastor with grilled pineapple sounded perfect!

And so, by 7:30 p.m. I am dunzo for the night.  I'm watching Cider House Rules and drinking tea.  I have training all day tomorrow starting very early, and I am giving myself an extra 20 mins to stop and get a peppermint latte!  After training, two of my besties are coming down from Austin for what we are calling an 8th grade slumber party!  We debated going on for about .5 seconds, and all agreed staying in and catching up is what we all need/want.  Love them.

Hear You Me

I could feel my voice going on Tuesday. On Wednesday I knew I only had a little bit left. I woke up this morning with nothing. Nothing but pain when I attempted to form words by forcing air out. So, no school today, and instead I made a trip to the doctor. Every nurse I had to “talk” to thought it was funny that I didn’t have a voice. Um, it’s not. Try walking into Walgreens or a health store and whispering to people. Or try explaining to the older woman at Walgreens who is determined to find the throat lozenges advertised in the paper for $.99 that you can’t find them/aren’t looking for them/don’t care that she thinks the lozenges you have in your hand taste disgusting. I don’t think she even noticed I wasn’t talking to her, she kept talking to me, and following me around with her shopping cart. I think she thought I was going to get to the bottom of this mess for her and demand some $.99 lozenges for each of us! No, I just need to pick up my prescriptions.

It’s just a case of laryngitis, but the doctor gave me a steroid shot and a z-pack.  I'm glad, because I hate leaving a place empty-handed.  She also suggested I find tea that had slippery elm bark in it because she heard from people that it does wonders. There was a health store two blocks down and I was able to pick some up there.

The lady working there told me to steep the tea, squeeze out any water from the bag, and then immediately put it  in a second mug of water to steep again. She said drinking two mugs back to back really works.

I can definitely tell the difference. I’m have about 30% voice right now, but that was coming form 0%. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to go to work tomorrow, which I’m really excited about, because….

I scored a long-term sub job! And for social studies no less. I’m very excited, and I was sad to already miss a day. I think both the students and I need some consistency and we’ll all still getting used to each other, but they have been very receptive and complimentary. One student confided in another teacher that he thought I was very smart. Thank you. They all ask every day if I will be their new teacher. If anything I’m glad to be able to get them back into a routine for a bit…and it’s nice for me to have a routine too!

It’s great to be able to bring history to life for them, to make it relative, and to show them how we can learn so much from people’s past choices. Don’t worry, in three days we talked about the Civil War, Industrial Revolution, the assassinations of Lincoln and Kennedy, secret service, constitutional monarchy/democracy, WWI, WWII, Hitler, the Holocaust, and Canada. Stream of consciousness teaching. I need to reel it in.

Work, Shop, Snuggie?

I woke up feeling a little better. Luckily, I was able to teach the whole day and my throat feels OK. I think I’ll swig some Nyquil and drink some tea once again tonight for good measure.

After work I went and did some more shopping. I’m nearing the end of the shopping sprees for a while, though I do have my eye on a pair of Calvin Klein loafers and a fleece running jacket from Target…Maybe this weekend. If they’re still there at the store waiting for me, it was meant to be.

Here’s my shopping report:

Marshall’s:
Naturalizer round-toe flats in black crocodile (not the cutest, but comfort won me over)
Black pants (Love it when I find great fitting pants in petite!)

Dillard’s:
Gianni Bini “Cooper”

Target:
C9 by Champion™ Knee-Length Running Tights w/ Reflective detail on legs

Lindt Swiss Chocolate - Excellence Dark Chocolate with Chili

Also, Comet got a Snuggie today. He’s one of those weird dogs that loves to wear sweaters or his collar. He gets very excited. He also LOVES fleece. The Snuggie isn’t really that cute, it looks like a straight jacket since the closures on the back--two velco straps--are exposed. It’s also not as soft as I thought it would be, and it’s quite thin. No matter, he loves it.

Saag Paneer & Perfume

I may have a hard time staying up late these days, but waking up early is no problem!

Last night I went out to celebrate my birthday with some friends. We went to Shiva’s for some yummy Indian food. Last year for my birthday we had Indian food too, so it must be a tradition now. Only a few of my friends had ever had Indian before, and for the rest it was an adventure. I’m glad everyone loved their meal. It was so good to spend time together and laugh. After dinner we stopped by the Ginger Man for a quick beverage, but we started losing people pretty quickly. It’s hard to keep the party going if everyone’s been up since 7 a.m. It was a great night though!

This morning I woke up bright and early and went on my long run. I already knew what my 7 mi course would be since I ran it Wednesday. I had lots of energy and felt great after. I am following my training program, honoring my rest/cross training days and not adding in any extra runs. After taking roughly a two week break from running due to either illness or tiredness, these last two weeks of running have been great. I’ve been faster and less tired. I’m only running about four times a week on this program, two longer days and two very short days, but it’s working and the long runs are not only becoming more tolerable they are flying by!

This afternoon I did a bit more shopping (expect a few shopping reports while I use up my birthday money/gift cards). I received a gift card to Sephora and did some online browsing before going to the store. I love make up. And all things bath related. And hair products. Basically, Sephora is a Mecca for me. After finding lots of cute holiday pallets I decided I would use my gift card for something I’ve been wanting—new perfume!

While I love Stella, I branched out and went with Calvin Klein Euphoria. Here’s what Sephora has to say about it:

Euphoria is about sexiness, fantasy, and being captivating. Sexy and sensual, euphoria speaks to the woman who has the urge to break free from everyday life - to provocatively be part of an exciting world filled with pleasure, surprise, and temptation. Her fragrance is a contrast between exotic fruits and seductive florals, for a rich, creamy, seductive signature.
Notes:
Pomegranate, Persimmon, Green Notes, Black Orchid, Lotus Blossom, Champaca Flower, Liquid Amber, Mahogany Wood, Black Violet, Cream Accord.
Style:
Confident. Sexy. Chic.

Oooh! Well I definitely need this to start off a new year!

The only downside of the weekend is my throat is killing me. If I don’t talk it’s fine, but I just had dinner with a friend and it’s still throbbing after our hour-long convo. It’s been like this a few days. I’m about to take some meds, drink some tea, and hope I wake up feeling a-ok.
